Tanya Midzi Selected for U16 Tennis Touring Team 2022

Congratulations to Tanya Midzi on her recent tennis achievements.

Tanya played two ITF World Junior Tennis Tour J5 tournaments in Bulawayo. She achieved good results walking away with two silver medals at the conclusion of the tournaments. The first medal was in the singles final where she squared off with Celine Joseph of South Africa, taking the 1st set 6-3, and then dropping the 2nd and 3rd sets 2-6,3-6 , to claim the silver position.

In other singles matches, she overcame Hailey Banda (Zim) 6-1, 6-1, Jannat Chiripal (India) 6-1, 6-0, Lucy Bell Hogan (Ireland) 6-3, 6-0, Sophia Fuller (South Africa) 6-2, 6-1, Kudzai Chapepa (Zim) 6-2, 6-3, Che Nel (South Africa ) 6-3, 6-3, and Ruramai Nyamakura (Zim) 6-0, 6-2. Most matches were won in two straight sets.

The second medal was in the doubles where she partnered Nina Krecklenburg of Australia and overcame Kudzai Chapepa and Lucy Bell Hogan in the semi-finals to claim a spot in the finals. In the finals the pair then went down to Madagascan sisters Harena Voaviandraina and Andraina Mitia Voavy, 4-6, 3-6 to settle for the silver position.

Tanya has subsequently been selected to be part of the Grand Slam Development Fund/ITF/CAT Touring Team U16. The team will comprise of four players selected from the Southern African region, with the other team members from Madagascar and South Africa. This team will play in the J4 and J3 tournaments to be hosted in Harare towards the end of July.
