Astroturf Construction Starts at Peterhouse

The big news out of Peterhouse this week is arrival of construction equipment for the re-development of the Girls’ School 1st XI hockey field.

The natural grass is being rolled up in preparation for the laying of the foundation base for the new Astro Turf based at Peterhouse Girls. Bitumen World, who have been contracted to build the base structure, are already on site.

After more than a year of meticulous planning and rigorous interrogation, the start of this project marks another milestone in the development of the school. Special thanks to the planning team, under the guidance of Project Manager Matt Dove, for the hours they have put in to ensure that the school has a world class hockey facility. Equally, to Graeme Webb, Chairman of BESTCO, members of the School’s BESTCO and EXCO committees, our sincere thanks for their vision and trust in the future.

Our 1st XI hockey girls were spotted having their last practice on the grass field just as the initial work started.

A celebratory event of flowers and champagne was held, although there was much laughter and excitement, there were also a few tears shed as the girls bid farewell to the grass.

While the 2022 season will remain on grass, we look forward to 2023, when our teams will be playing on a new synthetic surface
