Peterhouse Girls Leadership Camp 2021

"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower."

A group of 40 Peterhouse Girls House Prefects excitedly made their way into Gosho Park for the Prefect’s selection camp held over the weekend of Friday 12 November to Saturday 13 November 2021..

Given the option to sleep back in their houses after an afternoon of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, the girls opted to spend the night in the cabins. The atmosphere in Gosho, was characterised by laughter, ominous rain clouds, drenched clothes, strained muscles and stretched patience-yet through it all, singing voices could be heard ringing through the trees after the successful completion of a task.

The girls were taken through their paces, in order to establish their eligibility for interviews for the various school posts that they applied for. In six teams that were predetermined for them, the 40 girls had to forge bonds that enabled them to work through several mental and physical activities, which challenged them in ways they had not imagined.

Designed to push them out of their comfort zones, each girl learned something new about herself, out-the-box thinking, resilience or patience, while embracing the opportunity to lead in unexpected and sometimes, frustrating circumstances.

After each session of tasks, a talk was given by a senior member of staff on various aspects of leadership. Topics covered included, ‘Creating a Legacy’, ‘Traits of a leader’, ‘Adept at being adaptable’, as well as a’ Continuum of Bad Behaviour’.
