Adventurous Journey for Bronze Awarders to Nyanga 2018

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

For this Bronze Journey, we decided to climb Mt Nyangani and explore the Nyazengu Forest. We had five groups of Awarders, of various ages. All of them attended several evenings of training, so that they were as well prepared for this Journey as they possibly could be.

The special aspect of this particular Journey was the interaction we had with National Parks in Nyanga. Mr Sibanda, the new Area Manager, could not have been more helpful or welcoming. As we were climbing Mt Nyangani, he organized for a knowledgeable scout to come with us – Emmanuel. Overall, we felt so well looked after by National Parks and I would recommend a visit to Rhodes Nyanga National Park for anyone interested in being able to have the most beautiful walks.

The Awarders did really well – in spite of the most incredible thunder storm and lots of rain. We had a special night camping under the big trees near the Nyazengu River and walked round to the Car Park below Mt Nyangani via the Mtenderere River.
