Tanya Midzi Tennis Update March 2021
Tanya played 3 ITF U18 tournaments over 3 weeks in March, namely J4 Pretoria and 2 x J5 Potchefstroom. A major highlight was overcoming South Africa’s 2020 U14 national champion Carli Kruger without dropping a single game to win 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the Pretoria J4 event. In the second round she then met number 681 world ranked Ine Lamprecht (18) and went out 4-6, 1-6 after a good fight.
In Potchestroom she managed to reach quarter finals in singles in one of the events after knocking out 7th seeded Line Greyling in 3 sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round , followed by Aimee Hulett, 6-0,6-0 in the second round. She went out in the quarters to first seed in the tournament, world ranked 288 Leigh van Zyl (17) in 3 sets again, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 in a match that had an emotional ending for both players.
