JUNIOR MISTRESS AT PETERHOUSE GIRLS

w.e.f January 2019


Each year Peterhouse Girls employs a number of Junior Mistresses (JMs). JMs can be employed for a year (three terms) but they are often employed for a term or two. The school currently has one post available for the third term of 2018.

JMs are typically school leavers, or have recently completed a university degree, but all applicants can be considered.

Responsibilities are wide ranging but include assisting in the boarding houses, coaching sport, helping in the classroom and accompanying the school’s many outdoor trips (i.e. to the Chimanimani Mountains etc.). The successful applicant will therefore understand the commitment required in a full boarding school.

JMs receive board and lodging free of charge and are paid a modest salary.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with musical talent and ambition to lead the Music Department in Zimbabwe’s top independent school.

Music is an integral part of both the academic and extra-curricular programme at Peterhouse. The role of Director of Music will be to build on the success of an already excellent department across the Peterhouse Group of Schools (i.e. Peterhouse Boys, Peterhouse Girls and Springvale House).

The successful applicant will be a graduate of a well-renowned university and will:
• be an accomplished pianist and organist (at least ABRSM/Trinity Grade 8 standard or the equivalent preferably to Diploma level);
• have experience in conducting orchestras and directing choirs;
• be able to teach Music up to IGCSE level; and
• be endlessly energetic and engaging!
